ECOWAS lifts sanctions on Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger and Guinea
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has announced the lifting of economic sanctions placed on Niger, Burkina Faso, Mali and Guinea.
The decision was taken at the regional body’s summit held in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja on Saturday.
The summit was for the Heads of State and Government to discuss the Political, Peace and Security situation in the region.
Ecowas said the economic sanctions were being lifted on humanitarian grounds.

As a result, the no-flight zone sanction has been lifted, suspension of financial transactions between ECOWAS and the coup-stricken countries has also been lifted.
Nigeria will also restore electricity to Niger Republic immediately as a result of the decision taken by the heads of state.
Political and targeted sanctions though remain on the four countries currently being led by soldiers who carried out coups.
