The hotel proprietor owes $50 to the baker for bread purchased yesterday, so he gives the $50 on the counter to the baker across the street. The baker owes $50 to the butcher for some meat purchased recently.

The original man then comes downstairs after looking at the room. “I decided I don’t need the room after all”. He takes the $50 that the prostitute put on the counter, and walks out the door. All debts are paid off. How is this possible?’
